Our October event is ON and WE ARE PUMPED!!! We’re planning three days and two nights of flying off a big, beautiful piece of farmland in Davie County, NC! C’mon out and join us!

About the facilities: Our field has electricity (100 Amp service), two covered pavilions, an air conditioned clubhouse, a fridge full of soda, two gas grills (one ”XL”and one large), and blue sky almost everywhere you look. The field is set up like this: Running N/S we have a 600’ grass flight line/runway, running off into the farmland on all sides. The main field will be divided into three flight boxes. Off to the right of the main Line, running E/W, we have another flight box, fronted by a hard rubber mat (For head button piros, of course - and for the micros). As stated, we’ll be rolling in a light tower, so we plan on flying and hanging out well into the night. Our fantastic club members will be manning the grill during the day, so we’ll have some great food available.

Contests: We’re currently planning a raffle, with all proceeds going to benefit our flying site. More details to come as we have them - don’t forget to friend us on Facebook for event updates.

Fun and games: Light tower. Light tower!!!!

We’ve talked about the different informal mini-comps we could put on - like an Auto contest, Heli Limbo, 450 Combat, Drag Racing, and so on. We may do some or all of these. Which ones we do is really up to you, the attendees - we’re glad to do whatever everyone is most interested in watching and participating in! So, please weigh in on Facebook and the forums and let us know. We’ll plan accordingly.

Most of all, though - This event is about having FUN - flying, hanging out, learning new things, helping others, and reveling in all the rich gifts of friendship that this hobby brings us.

WE CAN’T WAIT TO SEE YOU AT LOWERFEST!!!!!!

~ Please read more about our club, and why we’re finally getting around to hosting our Heli event:

So… For a few years now, we’ve discussed doing a heli event at our field, and earlier this year we all decided as a club that this would be the year we finally did it. We have such a great field - acres of wide open farmland- and knew it would be so much fun to open our field to a whole weekend of flying our helis. We have the support of the club behind us and everyone involved is really glad to be a part of it. We’ve enlisted the help of Rick Stowers (of R/C Helis Only-RCHO) to be the Contest Director for the event. Chad Strong and myself (Matt) are handling the main event functions, along with other volunteers from within our club. All our officers have let us know they’ll be volunteering for specific tasks, or just generally helping out. Feel free to ask any of us if we can help you while you’re our guest at the field.

About the club and the field:

The Winston-Salem R/C Club (WSRC) has been around for decades. Some years back, the club migrated to a piece of leased land over in Mocksville, NC (between Winston-Salem and Statesville) which is now its current location. Our Treasurer, Phil Vance is also the Treasurer for IMAC and so the club has been host to a great many well-attended IMAC meets. They still put on a couple of IMAC events each year, with overnight camping, bonfires and the usual after-hours hanging out after a nice day of flying. Our landowners are happy to have us, and the surrounding area is sparsely populated so we’re left alone to do whatever we want. Our club members are a friendly bunch, and many of our members fly helis and planes… Everybody is just laid back, and...The field is big enough that flyers can do whatever pleases them. However, membership has declined as the hobby has shrunk. So we decided to put on more events this year, and in the coming years, so that membership could still remain affordable to the average sport flyer.

Where we’re located:

The field itself is in Mocksville, NC (Davie County). It’s surprisingly close to civilization...There are plenty of restaurants in the town of Mocksville just a few miles away. If you’re not camping with us at the field, lodging can be secured in Mocksville (Comfort Inn, Days Inn). Additional lodging and dining options can be found in Clemmons. What I’d suggest is to go to our website, open the field in Google Maps (Link above the photo), and check out the area.

If you have questions, please use the “Contact Us” form on the club website. Your message will be received by me and I’ll get back with you.

In Helis we trust,

Matt Blevins
